Most of the time, these kinds of mixtapes (i.e. by the hoz, for the hoz) bum me out because most of the time female rappers are or are marketed not so much as being all about looking out for number one/riding around shining as they are about getting money outta dudes who ride around shining/being so good at sex they might be able to trick dudes into being interested in more than just doing it.
So the awesomeness of this mixtape, from Diamond of Crime Mob (she's two years and four days younger than me and has been rapping since she was like fifteen = bossy) is two-fold: because 1)it's actually awesome and not just awesome for a girl, 2) finally something called Bitch Muzik does nothing to perpetuate the impossibility of same and instead demolishes that pigeon-hole. It's still rap and it's still all about gettin' that paper, cheifin' that reefer and being the mothafuckin truth, but--and this is why I love hip hop--that's all just the artifice that contains the message of living the mythic life of an insatiably self-determined, invincibly creative individual. In the words of Three 6, "when we say bitch we don't mean no disrespect, cause when we say bitch we mean hos and niggas."
Thanks to Diamond first for being an awesome rapper and second for being an awesome person.
(Sick AND free!)
